Founded on November 28, 1928, PLDT is the leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines. Through its three principal business groups – fixed line, wireless, and information and communication technology – PLDT offers the largest and most diversified range of telecommunications services across the Philippines' most extensive fiber optic backbone and fixed line, cellular and satellite networks.
PLDT Challenges
Already heavily invested in Oracle, PLDT now needed to take the data from their transactional systems and perform in depth analysis against it. While Oracle performed well in the transactional environment and the analysts were comfortable with Oracle BI tools, the scale of the data was simply too large for Oracle to perform adequately.
Greenplum Solution
Greenplum's MPP architecture, scaling capability, and support for open standards allowed for PLDT to extract data from Oracle databases into Greenplum Database and use Oracle BI tools to analyze the data against the Greenplum Database. The result was an 8X decrease in load times and reduction in long queries from 2hrs to 15min.
