Greenplum Fundamentals
This class is an introduction to Greenplum. Covered topics are Greenplum architecture and the MPP environment, data warehousing fundamentals, introduction to PostgreSQL, and an introduction to Greenplum and Unix. Students will be introduced to the UNIX interface (psql) and the Greenplum Data Dictionary.Duration: 1 Day (8 hours)
Audience: Developers, Database Administrators, End UsersPrerequisites: SQL Experience (any RDBMS, PostgreSQL is helpful), Some UNIX Experience
Greenplum Advanced SQL and Tuning
This class is an advanced session that will take the student through a typical Greenplum implementation. The students will start with creating a Greenplum database on an already installed system, create databases, schemas and other database objects. Students will learn how to select load methodologies, optimize and tune queries through a connected series of hands-on labs. The end result of the class will be a highly tuned operational data mart.
- Review Greenplum “Shared Nothing” Architecture & Concepts
- By implementing a Greenplum Data Mart students will:
- Create a Greenplum Database and Schemas
- Evaluate Logical and Physical Data Models
- Determine appropriate Distribution Keys and create tables
- Determine and implement partitioning and indexing strategies
- Determine and implement optimal load methodologies
- By fulfilling reporting requirements students will:
- Be able to “Explain the Explain Plan”
- Create and use statistics
- Create detail and summary reports using OLAP functions
- Create and use temporary tables
- Write basic Postgres functions and create data types
- Identify and optimize problem queries

Greenplum Administration
This class is centered around the installation, upgrade and maintenance of the Greenplum database system. The students will create a Greenplum instance, database and schemas. The class covers configuration settings at the database and operating system levels. Students will perform all essential database administration and monitoring tasks through hands-on labs for each class module. Database backup and recovery, workload management and access control are also taught.

Greenplum training is available to individuals and companies in open-enrollment, public offerings, and custom or private offerings. In general tuition for open-enrollment courses is on a per student basis, with students responsible for their own travel and lodging. Custom and private offerings are offered on either a flat-rate or per-student basis, with additional charges for instructor travel, lodging and expenses.
